How To Wash Your Hands

While coronavirus is not likely to survive for long periods of time on outdoor surfaces in sunlight, it can live for more than 24 hours in indoor environments. Washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or using hand sanitizer, regularly throughout the day will reduce the risk of catching or passing on the virus.

You should wash your hands for the amount of time it takes to sing “Happy Birthday” twice (around 20 seconds):

Wet your hands with water.

Apply enough soap to cover your hands

Rub your hands together.

Use 1 hand to rub the back of the other hand, and clean in between the fingers, and do the same with the other hand.

Rub your hands together and clean in between your fingers.

Rub the back of your fingers against your palms.

Rub your thumb using the other hand, and do the same with the other thumb.

Rub the tips of your fingers on the palm of your other hand, and do the same with the other hand.

Dry your hands completely with a disposable towel.

Use the disposable towel to turn off the tap.

Please remember, if you do not have immediate access to soap and water then use alcohol-based hand sanitiser.
