SIA Code of Behaviour For Security Officers

What is the SIA Code of Behaviour for security officers?

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is a regulatory body in the United Kingdom that sets standards and regulates the private security industry. The SIA has developed a Code of Conduct that outlines the expected behavior and standards for security officers. The SIA Code of Conduct consists of two parts: the Code of Conduct itself and the Principles of Conduct.

The Code of Conduct sets out the behavior expected of individuals working in the private security industry. The code consists of four sections:

  1. Conduct Security officers must act with honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times. They must not engage in any behavior that could damage the reputation of the security industry or the SIA.

  2. Competence Security officers must have the necessary skills, knowledge, and training to carry out their role effectively. They must maintain their competence through regular training and development.

  3. Communication Security officers must communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, and members of the public. They must be able to listen, understand, and respond appropriately to the needs of others.

  4. Confidentiality Security officers must respect the confidentiality of information they come across during the course of their work. They must not disclose any confidential information unless required to do so by law.

The Principles of Conduct are a set of six principles that underpin the Code of Conduct. They are:

  1. Accountability Security officers are accountable for their actions and must be able to justify their decisions and behavior.

  2. Integrity Security officers must act with integrity and avoid any behavior that could damage the reputation of the security industry or the SIA.

  3. Honesty Security officers must be honest and truthful in all their dealings.

  4. Fairness Security officers must act fairly and without discrimination.

  5. Respect Security officers must treat others with respect and dignity.

  6. Lawfulness Security officers must act within the law and uphold the rights of individuals.
