What Is Top Up Training?
Top-up training is a compulsory two-day additional training to renew your SIA license. SIA is changing how Security Guard and Door Supervisor Licenses are renewed from the 1st of October. This new SIA Top Up Training will up-skill door supervisors to the level attained by those who took a course and qualification after April 2021.
This is a two-day SIA Top-up Training course with a workbook that must be completed before attending the face-to-face classroom training. You must also complete an emergency first aid course to apply for your SIA renewal.

Yes, the SIA requires all Security Guards and Door Supervisors to complete emergency first aid training before applying for their SIA Renewal License.
Furthermore, you must complete a compulsory two-day additional ‘Top-Up’ training to renew your SIA license. SIA is changing the way that Security Guard and Door Supervisor Licenses are renewed from the 1st of October. This new SIA Top-Up Training will upgrade door supervisors’ skills to the level attained by those who took a course and qualification after April 2021.
You must also complete an emergency first aid course to apply for your SIA renewal.
The London SIA Top Up Training course is compulsory from 1 October 2021. The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is changing the way that Security Guard (SG) and Door Supervisor (DS) licenses are renewed. From this date, to renew your licence, you must complete additional training called ‘Top-Up’ training / “Top Up Door Supervisor Refresher.”
This new SIA Top Up course will raise the skill level of door supervisors to the level attained by those who took a course and qualification.
This 2-Day SIA Top Up Training course has a workbook to complete before the face-to-face training.
What is the requirement to renew my SIA licence badge?
You must complete Top Up Training plus a First Aid Certificate to renew your SIA license.
Why do I need the SIA Top Up Training Course London for a Door Supervisor License?
Completing the Top Up Door Supervisor training to renew your license will be compulsory. On 1 April 2021, the SIA introduced new critical safety elements to its licence-holder qualifications.
This Top-up Door Supervisor Training is To ensure that current Door Supervisor and Security Guard licence holders have the same level of qualification as those who are newly qualified. The SIA has developed top-up training. Since 1 April 2021, when the standards changed, Top-up Door Supervisor training will align the skills of those renewing licences with new licence holders.
Do I also need an SIA Top-up training course for a Security Guard license?
Yes, you will need an SIA Top-Up Training if you currently hold a Security Guard licence, so you must attend top-up training. From 1 October 2021, you must have one of the following before you can apply for or renew your licence:
One of the new SIA Qualifications set in place in April 2021.
Or one of the older licence-linked qualifications, a valid First-Aid certificate, or a Top-Up qualification.
What will the SIA top-up training course include?
Security Guard licence holders must undergo one day of top-up training.
This top-up training will include Terror Threat Awareness and Minimising Personal Risk for Security Officers. Part of the SIA changes also require licence holders to have an Emergency First Aid Certificate. Before renewing your licence, you must either prove you have a minimum of 12 months before expiry on any current first aid certificate or attend an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification or equivalent before attending any top-up training.
