This course provides an ideal continuation opportunity for students on the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training. It is taught at a similar level to the BA (Hons) Innovation in Learning and Development, however, this course is more suited to students who already have a Bachelor Honours degree award.

Combine both theoretical and practical knowledge in the education profession and will develop and enhance knowledge and skills in the areas of curriculum planning, effective performance, action research and development.

Entry Requirements

For entry onto the OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Teaching and Learning qualification, students must possess:

  • Relevant NQF/QCF/RQF Level 5 diploma or equivalent recognised qualification
  • Mature students (over 21) with management experience (students must check with the  ABA staff regarding this experience prior to application for the programme)
  • If a student is not from a majority English-speaking country they must provide B2 Level evidence of English language competency

Equivalences

Qualifications at RQF Level 6 represent practical knowledge, skills, capabilities and competences that are assessed in academic terms as being equivalent to Bachelor’s Degrees with Honours, Bachelor’s Degrees, Professional GraduateCertificate in Education(PGCE), Graduate Diplomas and Graduate Certificates.

Qualification structure

The OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Teaching and Learning qualification consists of 6 mandatory units, for a combined total of 120 credits, 1200 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT) and 480 GuidedLearning Hours (GLH) for the completed qualification.

Progression Opportunities 

Successful completion of the Level 6 Diploma in Teaching and Learning qualification enables students to progress into employment.

As this qualification is approved and regulated by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation), students are eligible to progress to relevant qualifications at higher level.

Course Introduction

There are six modules to this course and each module is worth 20 Credits. Upon completion you will therefore have earnt 120 Credits at Level 6.

In the Lesson Planning module, as well as learning how to plan a lesson, you will be able to apply theories of teaching and learning tolesson planning, as well as developing assessment writing expertise.

The Reflective Practice module is more about you as an educator. Using theory such as Kolb’s Experiential Learning, you will be able to use reflective practice to support your own personal development.

The Class Dynamics module is principally about how to motivate, engage and manage groups of learners who may be at different levels of ability and aptitude. On completing this module, you will be able to assess class dynamics and manage learner groups effectively.

Curriculum Development is a significant module since it enables you to develop skills in developing your own curricula as well as reviewing that of others.

Integrated education includes the study of equality and diversity in education, as well as special needs, and creating achievable goals for learners.

Finally, Technology in Education is around understanding the role of technology in supporting teaching and learning and its relationship with pedagogy. You will learn about the use of data in education settings and be able to plan and carry out research using technology.

Duration and delivery

The qualification is designed to be delivered over one academic year for full-time study, but it is also flexible in its delivery in order to accommodate part-time and distance learning. The qualification is delivered face-to-face, through lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance, online by approved centres only.

Assessment and verification

All units within this qualification are internally assessed by the centre and externally verified by OTHM.The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, students must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that the students have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by the Assessor.

The Assessor should provide an audit trail showing how the judgement of the students’ overall achievement has been arrived at.
