Do I Need First Aid To Renew My SIA Licence?
To renew your SIA licence, you must complete first aid plus top-up training. The SIA requires all Security Guards and Door Supervisors to complete emergency first aid training before applying for their licence.
Furthermore, you must complete a compulsory 2-day additional ‘Top-Up’ training to renew your SIA license. SIA is changing how Security Guard and Door Supervisor Licenses are renewed from the 1st of October.

Overview of SIA Top Up Training For Door Supervisor
Purpose and Aim of Qualifications:
From October 1, 2021, this qualification is a prerequisite for renewing an SIA license to work as a door supervisor in the private security industry. It is also required for those needing top-up training to be able to renew their door supervisor licence.
Who is it for?
Existing Door Supervisor SIA license holders (qualified before April 1, 2021) applying to renew their SIA license after October 1, 2021.
First-time SIA license applicants holding an SIA license to practice qualification awarded before April 1, 2021.

Module 1: Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry Exam

Practical Exam For the Physical Intervention Skills:
Candidates must demonstrate knowledge in critical areas of physical intervention, including:
Identifying risk factors involved with the use of physical intervention.
Recognizing signs and symptoms associated with acute behavioural disturbance (ABD) and psychosis.
Stating specific risks associated with positional asphyxia and prolonged physical interventions.
Identifying appropriate methods to deal with physical interventions on the ground.
Managing and monitoring a person’s safety during physical intervention.
The practical exam ensures candidates are fully aware of critical knowledge areas of physical intervention.
What Is SIA Top-Up Training?
SIA Top-up training is mandatory to renew your SIA licence in the UK. To renew your licence, you must undergo Top-up Training + Emergency First Aid Training, Security Guard (One-Day Training), and Door Supervisor (Two-Day Training).
You must complete the SIA Top Up Training and First Aid course to renew your SIA Licence. The SIA Renewal Training will take two days to complete.
You must also complete an emergency first aid course to apply for your SIA renewal.

What is the requirement to renew my SIA licence badge?
The SIA Top Up Training course is compulsory from 1 October 2021. The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is changing the way that Security Guard (SG) and Door Supervisor (DS) licences are renewed. To renew your licence from this date, you must complete additional training, called ‘Top-Up’ training / “Top Up Door Supervisor Refresher”.
This new SIA renewal course will upskill door supervisors and security guards. It is a two-day SIA Renewal Training course with a workbook that must be completed before attending the face-to-face training.
You must complete Top Up Training plus a First Aid Certificate to renew your SIA license.
Why do I need the SIA Top Up Training Course for a Door Supervisor Licence?
Completing the Top Up Door Supervisor training to renew your license will be compulsory. On 1 April 2021, the SIA introduced new critical safety elements to their licence holder qualifications.
Top-Up Door Supervisor Training is to ensure that current Door Supervisor and Security Guard licence holders have the same level of qualification as newly qualified, the SIA has developed top-up training. Furthermore, this SIA training will also align the skills of those renewing licences with new licence holders since 1 April 2021, when the standards changed.
Do I need an SIA Top-up training course for a Security Guard licence?
Yes, you will need a 1 Day Security Guard SIA top-up training if you currently hold an SIA Security Guard licence, which means you must attend an SIA renewal training.
Furthermore, an emergency first aid certificate is compulsory to renew your security guard licence.
What will the SIA Top-Up Training course include?
Security Guard licence holders must undergo one day of top-up training. This training will include Terror Threat Awareness and Minimising Personal Risk for Security Officers. Furthermore, Part of the SIA changes also requires licence holders to have an Emergency First Aid Certificate. Before renewing your licence, you must prove you have a minimum of 12 months before expiry on any current first aid certificate, or you must attend an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification or equivalent.

Who is this Top Up Course for?
- Top Up Training Course is for individuals who currently have an SIA Door Supervisor Licence or a Security guard license and they wish to renew their SIA License.
How can I book and pay for the course?

When will I receive my examination result?
Results are published online within 10-14 working days after your examination date. You will be notified by SMS and email when they are ready to view – in the rare case your results are delayed, we will always keep you informed.
What is the minimum Age Requirement ?
The minimum age requirement is 18.
When will I receive my certificate?
Certificates are usually dispatched 10-14 days after successful course completion. Please contact us – if it has been over 14 days so we can verify your address and arrange for a replacement.
Please note, you don’t need a certificate to apply for your SIA Licence.

I want to renew my License as a Security Guard, is this course right for me?
Yes, you would need an SIA Top Up Training to renew your Door Supervisor Licence to allows you to work as a Security Guard and a Door Supervisor.
That means – you can work in retail security, nightclubs and events with a Door Supervisor Licence.
What ID documents do I have to bring along?
It is a regulatory requirement to do an identity check for all security-related qualifications. Therefore, candidates who are attending Licence linked course are requested to provide the following upon arrival;
- Two passport size photos
- Original passport of any nationality or UK photo Drivers Licence
- Two forms of address proof (originals)

What if my course is cancelled?
We hate it when training providers have to cancel a course – but it can happen for reasons outside our control. If your course is cancelled – we will offer you an alternate date, if that date is not suitable, we will offer you an instant refund.
Does the course fee include the SIA Licence application fee?
The course fee does not include the licence fee. The licence application fee of £220 is payable to directly to the SIA when applying for the licence – which is valid for three years.
