How to use Criminal Law Act for security officers?

  2. Power to use reasonable force – Section 3 of the act allows a security officer to use reasonable force in the exercise of any power conferred on them by law, including the power to make an arrest.

  3. Power to enter and search premises – Section 18 of the act empowers a security officer to enter and search any premises for the purpose of arresting a person, recovering stolen property or any other property that is the subject of an offence, or to prevent an offence from being committed.

However, it is important for security officers to understand the limits and guidelines of their powers under the Criminal Law Act, and to use them in a reasonable and proportionate manner. Misuse or abuse of these powers can result in legal consequences for the security officer, the security company they work for, or the property owner.
