SIA Refresher Training For Security Guard

Starting 1 April 2025, all SIA Security Guard licence holders must complete a refresher qualification before renewing their licence. This updated requirement ensures security professionals maintain essential skills and knowledge in critical areas.

Course Overview

The Security Guard Refresher Training is designed for all Security Guard Licence holders seeking renewal.

Key Dates:

📅 From 1 April 2025 – Completion of a refresher qualification is mandatory for all Security Guards renewing their licence.
📅 Until 31 March 2025 – Security Guards who qualified before April 2021 must complete either Top-Up Training or Refresher Training before applying for renewal.

🚨 Important: Before taking the refresher training, you must hold a valid Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification or an equivalent first aid certification.

Course Content: Security Guard Refresher Training

This training covers essential security topics, ensuring guards remain effective in their roles.

Unit 1: Principles of Working as a Security Officer in the Private Security Industry (Refresher)

• LO1: Know how to conduct effective search procedures
• LO2: Understand how to keep vulnerable people safe
• LO3: Recognise terror threats and understand the security operative’s role in response

Assessment:

• Multiple-choice test (28 questions, 45 minutes)
• Practical assessment – Learners will demonstrate proper search procedures

🚨 Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Requirement

From 1 October 2024, SIA and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) require that Emergency First Aid training includes:

• How to respond to life-threatening bleeding
• How to open airways

📌 If you do not have a valid EFAW certificate, you must complete first aid training before enrolling in the refresher course.
