What Is First Aid ?
Emergency First aid is the first and immediate assistance given to any person suffering from either a minor or serious illness or injury. The purpose of first aid is to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, or to promote recovery. It includes performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while waiting for an ambulance or medical help to arrive, as well as the complete treatment of minor conditions, such as applying a plaster to a cut.
Who is the First Aid course for?
First Aid Course is compulsory if you want to work as a security officer, or if you want to teach first aid as a trainer.
- Emergency First Aid 1 Day Course is for Security Officers.
- First Aid At Work 2 day course is ideal for trainers, and workers.
Do you need first aid training for SIA Licence?
Yes, the SIA has announced that from the 1st April 2021 you must complete a first aid qualification to apply for your SIA License. To read more into the changes to the training you need for an SIA licence, please click here.
Do I need a first aid certificate to renew my SIA Licence?
Yes, You must complete a “Top-Up” Training in order to renew your SIA License after the 1st October 2021.
What Level Of First Aid Do I Need For SIA Licence?
For an SIA License you will need to complete the 1 Day Emergency First Aid At Work, which costs £80. This course is compulsory for you to complete in order to apply for an SIA Licence.
The SIA have announced changes to the licence linked qualifications required to work within the private security industry. As of April 2021, anyone who wishes to undertake security training to gain an SIA licence will have to prove that they have a valid First Aid certificate, which has at least 12 months until expiry.
The minimum standard of First Aid training accepted will be the Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification.

As of October 2021, it will also be compulsory for all security professionals renewing their licence to have the EFAW (Emergency First Aid At Work) qualification.
From 1 April 2021, all students must have a first aid qualification before they can take the training required for a door supervisor or security guard licence
from 1 October 2021, you must have one of the new qualifications or take top-up training before you can apply for a door supervisor and security guard licence – this includes renewals.
