What will the SIA top-up training course include?

Security Guard licence holders will be required to undertake an additional one day of top-up training.

This Top Up Refresher training will include Terror Threat Awareness and Minimising Personal Risk for Security Officers. Part of the SIA changes also requires licence holders to have an Emergency First Aid Certificate. Before renewing your licence, you must either prove you have a minimum of 12 months before expiry on any current first aid certificate or you must attend an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification or equivalent, before attending any top-up training.

Course Content: Security Guard Refresher Training

This training covers essential security topics, ensuring guards remain effective in their roles.

Unit 1: Principles of Working as a Security Officer in the Private Security Industry (Refresher)

• LO1: Know how to conduct effective search procedures
• LO2: Understand how to keep vulnerable people safe
• LO3: Recognise terror threats and understand the security operative’s role in response

Assessment:

• Multiple-choice test (28 questions, 45 minutes)
• Practical assessment – Learners will demonstrate proper search procedures
