Top Up Refresher Training And First Aid Course
Existing door supervisors and security guards must undertake an SIA Top Up Training in order to renew their SIA license. Part of the SIA changes also require licence holders to have an Emergency First Aid Certificate.
SIA Refresher training is available to all Door Supervision OR Security Guard Licence holders looking to renew their licence.
This update aligns with the Security Industry Authority’s (SIA) commitment to ensuring security professionals maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge.
Notice: From April 2025, all Door Supervisors looking to renew their licence must have completed the refresher qualification.
SIA Refresher Training For Door Supervisor + First Aid Course
Starting From 1 April 2025, all SIA licence holders must complete a refresher qualification before renewing their Door Supervisor or Security Guard licence.
Top-Up and Refresher Training for Door Supervisors
- Refresher training is available for all Door Supervision Licence holders renewing their licence.
- From 1 April 2025, completing the refresher qualification will be mandatory for all Door Supervisors seeking renewal.
- Until 31 March 2025, Door Supervisors with pre-April 2021 qualifications must complete either top-up training or refresher training before applying for renewal.
Emergency First Aid Requirement
Before taking the refresher training, candidates must hold an up-to-date Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification or an equivalent certification. It is essential to book both EFAW and refresher training to ensure licence renewal.
SIA Refresher Training for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry
Unit 1: Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor (Refresher)
- Conducting effective search procedures
- Keeping vulnerable people safe
- Understanding terror threats and the security operative’s role
- Safeguarding the public from spiking incidents
Assessment:
- Multiple-choice test (35 questions; 55 minutes)
- Practical assessment: Conducting a search
Unit 2: Application of Physical Intervention Skills (Refresher)
- Understanding the implications and risks of physical intervention
- Reducing risks associated with physical intervention
- Performing safe, non-pain compliant standing, holding, and escorting techniques
Assessment:
- Multiple choice test (30 questions; 45 minutes)
- Practical assessment of skills for LOs 4 and 5
- Oral Q&A
If You hold a door supervisor licence, you can choose one of the following options:
- Take the door supervisor refresher training and renew your door supervisor licence
- Take the security guard refresher training and switch to a security guard licence

Who is this Top Up Refresher Course for?
- This Top Up Refresher Training Course is for individuals who currently have an SIA Door Supervisor Licence or a Security guard license and they wish to renew their SIA License.
How can I book and pay for the course?

When will I receive my examination result?
Results are published online within 10-14 working days after your examination date. You will be notified by SMS and email when they are ready to view – in the rare case your results are delayed, we will always keep you informed.
When will I receive my certificate?
Certificates are usually dispatched 7 days after successful course completion. Please contact us – if it has been over 14 days so we can verify your address and arrange for a replacement.
Please note, you don’t need a certificate to apply for your SIA Licence.
I want to renew my License as a Security Guard, is this course right for me?
Yes, you would need an SIA Top Up Refresher Training to renew your Door Supervisor Licence to allows you to work as a Security Guard and a Door Supervisor.
That means – you can work in retail security, nightclubs and events with a Door Supervisor Licence.
What ID documents do I have to bring along?
It is a regulatory requirement to do an identity check for all security-related qualifications. Therefore, candidates who are attending Licence linked course are requested to provide the following upon arrival;
- Two passport size photos
- Original passport of any nationality or UK photo Drivers Licence
- Two forms of address proof (originals)

What if my course is cancelled?
We hate it when training providers have to cancel a course – but it can happen for reasons outside our control. If your course is cancelled – we will offer you an alternate date, if that date is not suitable, we will offer you an instant refund.
Does the course fee include the SIA Licence application fee?
The course fee does not include the licence fee. The licence application fee of £220 is payable to directly to the SIA when applying for the licence – which is valid for three years.
